In a meeting with police officers, the Supreme Leader added that the police should enforce the law without discrimination.
He advised rank-and-file police officers to be flexible when necessary and to treat the people kindly.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that moral strength is more effective than physical strength, and added that the police should deal with wrongdoing firmly but should eschew violence.
"The Iranian police should establish cordial relations with the people, exercise discipline, and bolster the moral strength of its personnel," the Supreme Leader stated.
He went on to say that the behavior of the police is regarded as a reflection of the governing system in society, so police commanders should make efforts to boost the morality and piety of rank-and-file police officers.
Ayatollah Khamenei, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, said that he appreciated the services of the police force, adding that it has made progress in serving the public and that they should not limit themselves to the current level in helping those whose rights have been trampled upon by wrongdoers.
The Supreme Leader recommended that the police fight corruption, social disorder, and lawlessness.
Prior to the Supreme Leader's remarks, National Police Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf presented a report on the performance and objectives of the police force.
